Xi Jinping Insists World Must Choose Peace or War at Beijing Military Parade

BEIJING, CN – Chinese leader Xi Jinping warned that the world must “choose between peace and war” while attending a military parade that also included Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, both of whom are at war in Ukraine.

“Today, mankind must once again choose between peace and war, dialogue and confrontation, win-win cooperation or a zero-sum game,” Xi said, without citing specific examples, as quoted by CNN.

Xi also praised China’s role in World War II. “The Chinese people, with great national sacrifice, have made great contributions to saving human civilization and maintaining world peace. History reminds us that the destinies of mankind are inextricably linked,” he explained.

“Only by treating each other equally, living in harmony, and supporting each other can all countries and nations safeguard common security, eliminate the root causes of war, and prevent the recurrence of historical tragedies,” he added.

Xi also praised China’s armed forces and outlined his vision for the country’s “unstoppable” rise.

“The great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation is unstoppable. The noble cause of peace and development for mankind will surely prevail,” he said.

The phrase “rejuvenation of the Chinese nation” has been frequently used by Xi to promote China’s rise on the world stage and its evolution into a global superpower. He also emphasized the development of a “world-class” military as part of the modernization of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) to enable it to “fight and win wars.”

Under Xi’s leadership, China’s military development has accelerated rapidly, with the PLA now rivaling, and in some respects surpassing, the US military, according to analysts. China has not fought a major war since the brief conflict with Vietnam in 1979.

While inspecting dozens of troop formations and weapons along the Road to Eternal Peace, Xi encouraged his soldiers from an open black limousine.

“Comrades, you have worked hard!” he exclaimed. The soldiers shouted in unison, saluting and welcoming the leader: “(We) serve the people!” he concluded. (Hardin CN)
